A 'miniature reality' photo shows Boy Scouts watching a blimp. Photo by Doug Prince

Possible Worlds

In one of Doug Prince's photo-sculptures, Boy Scouts in Iowa watch a blimp photographed in Florida as it passes the Manhattan skyline. Prince invites viewers to see the world in a new way, combining images to create what he calls "miniature realities." He prints different images on translucent film, sandwiches them between successive layers of plexiglass and mounts them in a viewing box. Lighted from behind, the images take on a 3-D quality.

Prince, whose work is in the permanent collection of many major museums, is a staff photographer at UNH. His photo-sculptures will be on view at the UNH Art Gallery from Oct. 17-Dec. 17, 2000.
