PHOTO OP: Arline Ekman '45 was an athlete who played softball at UNH, but she says that "those of us who were outside for the full day couldn't walk for a week." Though her parents had no objections to the Life spread, Ekman remembers her mother was horrified by a rough-and-tumble photo of her that ran in Redbook, fixing the weather station on the Conant Hall roof. "There was another picture of UNH girls whistling at a boy, and my mother's response was, 'Well, great—they're in cute skirts, and you're wearing rolled-up jeans!'"
